Custom BMC Speedmachine Cockpit for Pro Triathlete Cam Wilson
This custom one-piece cockpit was developed for Australian professional triathlete Cam Wilson and his BMC Speedmachine, with a clear focus on achieving a riding position that simply wasn’t possible with a conventional off-the-shelf cockpit.
Cam’s position required a super-narrow front end combined with extended reach, allowing his arms, hands and upper body to sit exactly where needed for his TT position. Rather than compromising his fit to suit the adjustment range of an existing cockpit, the complete system was designed around Cam’s position, comfort and aerodynamic requirements.
Hydration & Computer Integration
Once the core riding position was established, additional race-day components were incorporated into the system.
A custom computer mount positions Cam’s head unit centrally within his field of view while also incorporating a hydration straw clip, keeping the straw controlled and easily accessible while remaining in the aero position.
The cockpit was also paired with our Bottle Cone, helping integrate the front hydration bottle more cleanly into the overall cockpit profile.
These additions were designed around the cockpit rather than simply bolted onto it afterwards, creating a much more cohesive race setup.
Carbon Fibre Reinforced Nylon Construction
The cockpit is manufactured from carbon fibre reinforced nylon, providing the combination of strength, stiffness, durability and low weight required for a performance-focused component.
Its construction also allows us to manufacture complex rider-specific geometry that would be difficult to achieve through conventional off-the-shelf components.
A Cockpit That Fits the Rider
Cam’s BMC Speedmachine is a good example of why custom cockpit development can go well beyond appearance.
The objective wasn’t simply to create a cleaner front end. It was to build a cockpit capable of putting Cam into his exact TT position — with the narrow arm placement, extended reach, hand position, hydration and electronics all working together as one system.
The finished result is an extremely tailored setup designed around comfort, aerodynamics and the demands of professional long-course racing.
Built Around Cam’s TT Position
The cockpit was highly tailored from the beginning.
Arm support width, extension position, reach and hand placement were all developed around Cam’s individual fit. The narrow setup allows the front end to remain extremely compact, while the extended reach places his hands precisely where required to support his preferred riding position.
This is one of the biggest advantages of a fully custom cockpit — the rider isn’t limited by predetermined bolt patterns, extension lengths or adjustment ranges.
The cockpit is built around the rider.
Fully Integrated Extensions & Shifting
The custom mono-grip extensions incorporate electronic shift controls with internally routed cables, keeping the front end as clean as possible.
Routing the cabling internally removes unnecessary clutter around the extensions and allows the cockpit to maintain its slim, integrated appearance.
The hand position itself was also designed specifically around Cam, helping create a natural and repeatable position at the front of the bike.
